although they are the plain old non-suppressed B7HS. I'd use then happily ( in fact i have a set of NGKs as well as the original Champions for my 6hp Evinrude. Not exactly like mine but close enough.BZ7HS ( or BZ7HS-10) are the nearest NGK equivalent to QL77JC4 Here is a picture of a regulator and you can see the screen areas. Here is a picture of the VST with regulator circled. Did not remove the cable tie on the hose to the regulator, was able to life the regulator up and out the front to get full access to it) (full removal: remove cowling, pop off plastic flywheel cover, one screw on the front to lift off the air intake cover to get access to the two Philips/slot head screws that hold the regulator in place and popped it out. Noting all the places I have to go and came to the regulator part… hmmm… dead simple to remove and check… It is located on the top of the VST or Vapor Seperator Tank hase a thin line connected to it and a dimple in the top and two screws holding in place. Was just looking this up to see where I should look and ran across this thread. Often smokes a LOT on startup… more than it used to for sure. Sometimes it would idle OK, not good, just OK… sometimes really rough, sometimes stall. Running great pulling skiers, but feeling like fuel consumption is higher than normal (hard to tell with water skiing, we burn a lot of fuel in a weekend and don’t really pay attention but it just “feels” like its using more than normal) I have a 2002 Mercury 225 EFI used for water skiing. Rudy, thanks for taking the time to followup and post your solution. Rudy, Chaz and all… Huge thanks for this thread. Mercury 250 EFI Outboard MAGNUM Dyno-Boost Boat Performance Chip $200? sensors and perhaps the fuel pulse pump diaphragm which I have read could get a small hole in it allowing fuel to leak into the crank but at the same time wouldn't that effect the performance of the pump and not pull enough vacuum? What are your thoughts on the Brucato ACU for $1000. This now still leaves me with the head temp. and MAP sensors weren't working the ECM default setting should have perform properly as it was around 32f outside and of coarse at sea level which are the default settings. I would also like to add that the day of my test if the air temp. Prior to the run I checked the VST screen it was clean and made sure no gas was coming out of the VST vent. and when I got to my cottage after 30 miles, idling through the bay it was rough and almost stalling and black smoke out the rear. It still ran rich and wouldn't reach wot. Okay Chaz you were right about changing spark plugs the champions didn't make a difference. My total run will be 30 miles each way so I should get a fairly good idea of any performance change. It is the end of the boating season for me here in Whistler but I have to go to my cottage on the ocean to shut it down for winter and I am anxious to test it. Apparently other spark plugs can cause RFI on the ECM and as a result fool it into providing extra fuel hence run rich and eventually foul the plugs. In the owners manual it is recommended to use Champion QL77CC so I am going to put a set of these in and see if my performance changes. Now that I think of it my problems started around the same time I changed to NGK BR8HS plugs which are NGK's replacements. In my search to get it running like new again I findly found a forum that enlightened me about spark plugs. At the lake it idles poorly smokes a lot and only takes about a week to foul the plugs where as on the ocean it takes longer but it still performs poorly compared to when it was new. I run on the ocean mostly but also on a lake we have a cottage on at an elevation over 3,000 feet. Since the beginning of the summer 2009 the best I have been able to get is around 62 MPH. I bought the boat with the motor in 2008 with only about 30 hours on it and it would run up to 70 MPH. I have a 2002 Mercury 250 EFI Model 250XL and I have been plagued since 2009 with a loss in power, increased fuel consumption, and fouling spark plugs.
